Structural timber is a versatile material and can be used in heavy, light and temporary construction, depending on the grade. Premier Forest Products supplies:
Choosing what you need very much depends on the nature of the construction application. Graded structural timber is needed for load-bearing roof trusses for example, while ungraded timber is suited to lighter duty applications like non-load-bearing floor joists, beams, rafters, ceiling joists and wall studding, for example. Just ask us for advice if you need support with your specification.
Structural timber is also useful for temporary applications, such as site hoarding, scaffolding and formwork. This robust, renewable material can be re-used, or recycled at the end of the temporary use as needed.
All of our structural timber can be treated if needed, including fire treatments and pressure treatment to make the timber suitable for exterior use.
Timber is a renewable resource and is becoming more and more popular as a material choice in construction projects. While growing, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, capturing carbon which is then stored while being used as a building material. As a natural product, timber needs less energy to be produced compared to concrete or steel; by it’s very nature, timber is a renewable resource and can be recycled at the end of it’s serviceable life.
For your peace-of-mind, many of our timber products can be supplied with an FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) claim or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) claim to demonstrate they are made from timber sourced in responsibly managed forests.
