RGB Building Supplies was one of the bidders for the former hotel and has ambitious plans to turn it into four luxury homes with garages, walking a fine balance between honouring the property’s historic past while creating attractive, modern homes.
One of the ways they hope to do this is by using high end cladding on the building’s exterior.
Moderately dense and hardwearing, Premier Forest Products suggested Premium Grade Douglas Fir with a horizontal Shadow Gap 100x22mm profile would be ideal for its strength, durability and longevity.
Mike Curtis, RGB Building Supplies said, “With costs increasing across the board, price was certainly a consideration when we started work on this project. The Douglas Fir cladding represented good quality and good value, and a great recommendation from Premier. We’re really pleased with the overall effect it has on the building.”
Olly Bennett at Premier Forest Products said, “Sustainably sourced, we often recommend Douglas Fir to clients because its high resin content means that it is hardwearing, stable when dry and can be left untreated. By nature it is resilient and has an expected service life of 35 years.”
