Job Vacancies: CNC Programmer
Premier Forest Products is seeking a CNC Programmer for our specialist brand, PWIDF Fire Door Solutions specialising in technical fire door sets and architectural hardware.
This role is responsible for the production, optimisation and ongoing support of CNC machining programmes across PWIDF’s timber doorset manufacturing operation. The CNC Programmer will ensure programmes are accurate, efficient and aligned to technical drawings, production requirements, compliance and current manufacturing methods.
The position is office-based and will work closely with the machinist to discuss, test and confirm that programmes achieve the expected machining outcome. Trial running, adjustment and refinement of new programmes and processed may be necessary prior to batch and volume production.
The role will contribute to improved machinery efficiency, reduced waste, consistent product quality and safe working practices across the manufacturing operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, amend and optimise CNC programmes to achieve efficient and accurate machining results.
- Use PWIDF’s current programming software, SCM Maestro or apply experience from similar systems such as Alphacam, Radan or equivalent.
- Read and interpret technical drawings to ensure machining programmes meet specification and product requirements.
- Work closely with the machinist to validate programmes and ensure they deliver the required result in practice.
- Support trial running and adjustment of new programmes and processed prior to batch and volume production.
- Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency, reduce waste and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, attention to detail and problem solving in all programming activities.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with company Health & Safety requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Fluent in CNC programming software; experience with SCM Maestro preferred, although similar systems would be considered.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- AutoCAD literacy, or experience with a similar drawing package, would be an advantage.
- Excel literacy would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with SCM CNC layout would be beneficial, although not essential, whether pod-based or flatbed systems.
- Understanding of 5 Axis CNC machinery would be advantageous, although most machining activity is focused on X, Y and Z axis work.
- Previous experience operating a CNC machine would be an advantage, though not essential, as it would support optimisation and process visualisation.
- Familiarity with fire door manufacturing would be beneficial but not essential.
