Trojan Construction Management initially specified Siberian larch for the cladding. However, due to the import ban on goods from Russia, this material was no longer available. Mon Timber responded swiftly, recommending Canadian larch as a high-quality alternative. This solution was approved by both Trojan and Starbucks, allowing the project to proceed without interruption.
Over 2,000 metres of Canadian larch was ordered for the project. Mon Timber worked alongside sister company Duchy Timber, who expertly machined and coated the timber to ensure it met both aesthetic and functional requirements. The cladding provides a durable and visually appealing finish, perfectly complementing the Starbucks brand while withstanding Scotland’s challenging weather conditions.
Richard Wadley, Hardwood & Specialities Manager at Mon Timber, said: “The Starbucks project was a great opportunity to showcase our ability to deliver top-quality materials, even when supply challenges arise. The Canadian larch we provided ensured the project could continue smoothly, meeting all the client’s expectations.
“This project also allowed us to show our broad capability as part of the larger Premier Forest Products group, as we were able to call on sister company Duchy Timber for the machining, taking advantage of their new top-range machinery to ensure the best possible outcome. Working within our branch network is what sets us apart, as we have not only the capabilities but the expertise from a wide range of different businesses and specialists across the country, available to support each other in any project.”
Geraint Thomas, Procurement Manager at Trojan Construction Management, added: “Mon Timber’s quick response in sourcing an alternative to Siberian larch was crucial. The Canadian larch met all of Starbucks’ requirements, and we were able to complete the project on schedule. The cladding looks fantastic, and both Starbucks and Trojan are delighted with the results.”
