Pembrokeshire-based Woodsy Tiny Homes create bespoke ‘tiny homes’ ranging from shepherd’s huts to treehouses. They approached Premier Forest Products about plans to create a unique shepherd’s hut with disabled access for a project in mid Wales.
Woodsy Tiny Homes needed a hard-wearing cladding for this exciting project since the hut would be installed in an exposed location in mid Wales.
Sourced in the UK and machined in-house, Premier Forest Products recommended Homegrown Larch. Homegrown larch claddings are a cost-effective, lower carbon footprint option. Larch has a naturally high resin content, which makes it strong and more resistant to rot and decay when compared to lower resin species.
For this particular project the larch was machined to a shadow gap profile, a popular profile which gave the cabin a more traditional look and allows for the fixings to be discreetly hidden.
The front face of the hut was left rough to give it a rustic finish. Even untreated, the Homegrown Larch has an expected service life of 20-25 years.
